FaciliFlow

A breast cancer-related lymphoedema prevention device

What is breast cancer-related lymphoedema?

An under-represented women’s health issue

Lymphoedema is a life-changing and incurable condition with an unmet need for its prevention.

Current therapies show poor outcomes due to:

  • Short surgical follow-up

  • Life-long and costly treatment

  • Misdiagnosis

  • Low awareness

Breast cancer-related lymphoedema patient facts:

  • Global prevalence: 3.4 million patients

  • 27% decline in physical health

  • 20% decline in social function

  • 24% decline in mental health

Prevention overcomes these limits and offers patients an improved quality of life, yet remains inaccessible.

Approximately 20% of breast cancer patients undergoing treatment develop breast cancer related lymphoedema: incurable and debilitating swelling of the arm.

Why we made FaciliFlow

Lymphoedema specialists call for an easy and accessible way to prevent breast cancer-related lymphoedema.

FaciliFlow is a novel medical device that will be implanted during breast cancer surgery. It aims to prevent the onset of breast cancer-related lymphoedema by healing the injured tissue immediately following surgery.

Easily implantable. Its simplicity makes it the first ever lymphoedema preventive approach accessible to all patients.

We involve patients in the design process and they would have agreed to having an implant at the time of breast cancer surgery if it meant preventing their chronic lymphoedema.
